You might have noticed that I haven't posted in quite a few days. Well, the reason was that my wife Natalia gave birth to our first child yesterday. One of the name she suggested was surprisingly "Henri". I thought it would be a bit too fanboy for a street photographer So Mathis it is, born in Rosario on a sunny Autumn day.    (click on picture for high res)

After a three years long pensum in Argentina's second division, Rosario Central finally won its ticket back to the upper League last weekend. Celebrations took place all over town and I ultimately found out my neighbour is crazy, throwing bomb-like firecrackers on top of our roof. You'll guessed that I am fan of the other club in town, Newell's Old Boys. Still, I am glad that Central is back since the city's derby will take place again next season., welcome back Classico !!

Initially, I discovered Ova's work while both of us where participating to the Street Photography Now Project back in 2010. Therefore when I had the opportunity to spend a weekend in Buenos Aires last month, I contacted him to go out for a shoot. And so we did, in the Soho like neighbourhood of Palermo It was a pleasure to learn about his insights on audio visual arts as well as humbleness towards his photography. Discover this interview of Ova Hamer, "a guy that just takes pictures." Ova with his Nikon P7000 in the neighbourhood of Palermo, Buenos Aires 1)You...

So I turned 40 years old yesterday. Got married this year, moved to Argentina, and more surprises to come. Middle life crisis ? I don't think so.  To the opposite, the view of chocolate birthday cake seems to make me look like a 5 years old again . Yes, auto-derision does not kill. This picture was taken by a friend with my Leica X1 and is a candid. He did not nail exactly the focus, but he got the moment.

(click on picture for high res) Note that I initially processed this picture with my usual preset. Yet I feel that the tonalities and feel are just so much better in B&W. When shooting candid portraits in the streets, I often position myself and wait for my subject to make eye contact with me. This is my "decisive moment", that 1/9th of a second where a stranger is caught off guard and let's you see his state of soul. The moment after, it's all gone. Smiles, fear, shyness, indifference ... you already interfered in his world.  (click on a picture for high res) Leica M8 with 35mm Summicron IV at F2.0, 1/180, ISO160

I started this blog now almost 5 years ago. What use to be a simple web address is now replicated on half a dozen social networks, be it Facebook, Flickr, G+, Twitter, .... Yes, it is nice to see exposure to one's work increase, but apart from that, what is the real value ? I wonder whether it would not be better to focus my time to one social network. Gain of time, more interactions, better content would be part of the advantages. The main disadvantage would obviously be a loss of followers in the networks I would no longer...
